Okoa Kenya Referendum Bill Launched

CORD leaders, civil society members and other party leaders today turned up in large numbers for the launch of the Okoa Kenya Referendum Bill at the Bomas of Kenya.

The bill seeks to make amendments to the constitution.

One key amendment in the bill concerns security. It proposes the decentralization of security and wants Administration Police put under governors.

Recently, CORD leader Raila Odinga while attending the Second Devolution Conference in Kisumu insisted on the need for governors to be in charge of security in their own counties.

The Okoa Kenya referendum initiative has been opposed by the Jubilee government saying the process is not necessary and will cost a lot of money and divide Kenyans.

The launch was originally scheduled for February but had been postponed twice before.

The ceremony was led by CORD luminaries Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Senator Moses Wetangula.
