'For Once' Residents Flee as Petroleum Spills

Residents of Kaptembow ward in Nakuru County ran for their dear lives after a petroleum pipeline broke, spewing flammable content in the surrounding.

The locals closed businesses and fled the area fearing that the outburst could result to an explosion, leading to a tragedy.

However, as most of them vacated the area, some daring residents still went ahead to siphon the fuel before the police arrival.

According to the Star, area Police boss Musa Kongoli commended the residents for fleeing the scene, where a bulldozer broke the pipe as it moved soil during a road construction project.

Kongoli confirmed that the situation was under control as pipeline officials had stopped the spillage.

This incident comes weeks after three people died from inhaling petrol fumes when a tanker overturned in Kipkaren area, Uasin Gishu County. Contary to the Nakuru incident, residents rushed to the scene to fetch the dangerous product before the three met their death.

 3 Die After Breathing Petrol

In 2011, petroleum spillage from a broken pipeline resulted into a fierce fire that killed at least 100 people in Naitobi's Sinai slums, with another 100 being hospitalised.
