Orengo Dismisses 2013 MOU Between Raila and Kalonzo

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has dismissed a 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ODM leader Raila Odinga and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka.

The agreement stated that Musyoka would support the then CORD leader for Presidency in 2013, then Odinga would back the Wiper chief for the same position in 2017.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Siaya Senator James Orengo explained that the MOU was not officially registered and should, therefore, be considered “a gentleman's agreement which can be broken at any time.”

Orengo was speaking after a section of Wiper leaders demanded the deal to be considered during deliberations on who would become the National Super Alliance (NASA) flagbearer.

The Senator, however, noted that that the deal was null and void because they were now dealing with NASA and not CORD.

Nonetheless, he assured that the Alliance's co-principals were together allaying fears of any impending rift in the Coalition as has been widely speculated.

He further indicated that NASA would inform supporters where its Secretariat will be operating from adding that the Alliance would hold more rallies in Nairobi and Kitengela.

The announcement comes after Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze recommended that the MOU be used in determining the most suitable candidate to take on President Uhuru Kenyatta during the August 8 General Election.

Nyenze claimed that transformation from CORD to NASA had been done with an intention of ensuring the MOU in question was disregarded.
