Kalonzo Presents Presidential Nomination Papers to Wiper

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has presented his presidential nomination papers to the party's Election Board.

Musyoka presented the documents including academic papers and documents certifying his party membership, clearance from the Kenya Revenue Authority and HELB among others.

The documents were received and accepted by the Board's Chairman who officially declared Musyoka as Wiper's presidential candidate for the August 8 General Election.

The move could complicate the situation at NASA which is yet to select its candidate with the former Vice President maintaining his stand of becoming the Alliance's flagbearer.

The same has been reiterated by a section of Wiper leaders who issued an ultimatum that Musyoka be handed the coalition's presidential ticket or “NASA is dead.”

The party, through Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze, invoked a 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo as concrete grounds for the Wiper leader to be the designated presidential candidate.

According to the MoU, Raila would serve for a single term and support Mr Musyoka in the 2017 elections.

Nyenze cast doubt on Wiper's future position in NASA if a candidate other than Kalonzo was named the presidential flagbearer, statements which could threaten the unity of Alliance.

Speaking after submitting his nomination papers, Kalonzo stated that his move was aimed at solidifying his bid to clinch the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential torch.

He clarified that presenting his papers was not an indication the party would go it alone in the next polls but just meant that he had been 'blessed' by his own party.
