Over 50 Senior CID Officers Transferred to Curb Insecurity

At least 50 Central Intelligence Division (CID) officers have been transferred in major changes that have been undertaken to enhance security.

Notable among the transfers is former head of Anti-Terror Police Unit Boniface Mwaniki who has been made the new CID commander for Garissa County.

The new CID commanders for Mandera and Wajir counties are Said Baruk and Keri Nyawida respectively.

The three have been tasked with what might be the most volatile areas in Kenya in terms of terror threats.

This year alone, the North Eastern part of Kenya has been the object of several attacks, averted attacks and intimidation missions by the militant group Al Shabaab.

This is one of the moves that the government has undertaken in the fight against terror especially in the region.

A week ago, the government placed a ban on admitting of non-Kenyan students in areas along the Somali-Kenyan border as a measure to curb both chances of insecurity as well as radicalization.

Other changes made in the CID are; Festus Malinge who was moved to Busia County from Kisii, Amos Taben who is the new Kisii CID boss, Francis Kilonzo- moved from Bomb Disposal to Tharaka Nithi County and Eliud Langat who moved in to replace Kilonzo as the head of Bomb Disposal Unit.

William Nanguli from Makadara was moved to Mombasa to replace Ndumba Thangalan who was moved to CID headquarters alongside Onesmus Towett.

Central DCIO Richard Bitok was moved to Ngong in same capacity, having swapped positions with Hussein Bakari.

John Otieno was moved to Nyamira, Stephen Chacha to Muranga and Edson Nzioka to Voi   

Other changes include; Issa Mohamed -ATPU, Joseph Manuni- Mwingi, Ayub Bakari- Kayole, Harun Musanga- Moyale, Justus Emase- Kericho, Edward Mulamula- Kirinyaga, Stephen Wambua- Kisauni, Ali Bule- Kilindini, Brigid Kanyagi- Insurance unit, Joseph Kioko- Muranga, Francis Okwach- Bomet, Charles Kipchimba- Karatina, Michael Mwenze- Wajir East, Mungai Kamau- Kwale, Vincent Egesa- Samburu and Cathrene Njue- Nyandarua and Nicholas Etyang -Makadara.

The changes were announced by Director of CID Ndegwa Muhoro on Tuesday, in what he described as   'normal changes aimed at addressing some of the crimes that are fluctuating.”

The latest of series of events threatening security was an attack by Al Shabaab on Lamu Barracks which was averted by KDF soldiers.

11 terror suspects were killed in the Sunday morning attack, as two KDF soldiers died.

Four more Al Shabaab militants were later killed after they went hiding in nearby woods, bringing the total number to 15.
