Parliament Rejects President Kenyatta's Nominee for Secretary to the Cabinet

The Members of Parliament(MP) have rejected the nomination of Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Monica Juma as Secretary to the Cabinet.

The rejection of Dr. Juma follows a recommendation report by the Parliamentary Committee on Security and National Administration.

163 MPs have voted against a motion seeking to extend the period for the consideration of the committee report by 10 days, thereby rejecting her nomination.

Majority leader Aden Duale had moved a motion under standing order 52(i) seeking to extend period for consideration of Ms Juma's appointment by a further 10 days from June 11.

The Asman Kamama led committee Wednesday rejected the appointment of Dr. Monica Juma over what they termed as “displaying arrogance” to parliament.

The Mps are said to have taken issue with Ms Juma following a letter she wrote to the National Assembly clerk complaining about legislators’ frequent visits to her office.

In the said letter Dr. Juma complains about frequent visits by the lawmakers to her office to demand transfers, employment or requests for State workers to serve in certain stations.

The Interior PS in her letter indicated that honouring the legislators' was not sustainable and constituted a breach of the civil service code of regulation.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had nominated Ms Juma to replace Francis Kimemia who was allegedly sacked over corruption allegations.

I have moved a motion under standing order 52(i) seeking to extend period for consideration of appointment by 10 days from June 11.
