Five suspected gangsters were on Monday morning gunned down in Nairobi, along the Thika Superhighway, by officers from the Flying Squad department.
The five were killed at Survey area along the busy Highway, after they were trailed following a botched robbery at Highridge in Parklands.
The suspects were cornered by the officers at the Drive In bumps where a heavy fire exchange ensued.
Confirming the incident, Starehe OCPD Alice Kimeli said that the robbers had been followed from Westlands and opened fire on the officers shooting one on the chest thus leading to the shootout.
General Service Unit officers from the nearby Headquarters, Regular Police and Administration Police arrived at the scene to control a huge crowd that gathered to have a glimpse of the dead thugs.
Two pistols and a stolen getaway vehicle which the suspects were using were recovered. Motorists heading towards Thika were held in a thick traffic snarl up following the incident.
