PHOTOS: 'Missing' Governor Finally Turns Up

Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua received a grand welcome from hundreds of residents at Kamukunji Stadium in Nyeri after being absent for four months.

His convoy was met with cheers and ululations as traditional dancers lined up in two lines from the gate to the main dais to entertain him.

He however did not alight to join the dancers, and his personal assistant was spotted giving instructions to the driver not to let the Governor interact with the crowd. Mr Gachagua was instead ushered to the line of executives and MCAs waiting to greet him.

Gachagua who was last seen in the limelight during last year’s Jamhuri Day Celebrations left the country for India in late December to seek treatment.

He made the appearance at a 2016-2017 budget validation public forum where the residents were supposed to debate and prioritize projects for their areas.

Speaking during the event, Gachagua accused his opponents of taking advantage of his health condition to campaign for the upcoming General Election and stated that he is still fit to continue serving as Governor.
