PHOTOS: Nairobi University Students Arrested With Killer Weapons

Five University of Nairobi (UoN) students were arrested on Tuesday morning on suspicion of participating in criminal activities.

The students were accused of terrorising residents of Lower Kabete in Kiambu County during rampant theft cases.

In an operation conducted by the police, the suspects were found with several mobile phones and crude weapons including knives and a home-made gun.

The gang is believed to have orchestrated several robberies that happened in the area on Monday night.

Area OCPD Birgen Kiptoo confirmed the arrests assuring that the students would be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.

"We are holding them as we investigate cases of break-ins around the area," he asserted.

A section of students at the institution has in the past been accused of indulging in crime and drugs within and out of its campuses.

In April, police discovered 25kgs of bhang, blood stained knives and nine pangas during an 8-hour raid of the University's hostels following protests in the institution.
