PHOTOS: Nairobi Woman Gets New Matatu After Suing Raila

A Nairobi businesswoman whose matatu was burnt down during CORD's anti-IEBC protests has received a new one.

Agnes Macharia narrated her problems at various forums and radio stations after her only source of income was destroyed by rowdy protesters outside the Moi Airbase Barracks along Juja Road.

Following the June 6 incident, well-wishers among them radio listeners of Kameme FM and Jubilee politicians contributed Sh3 Million to help her back to business.

Mrs Macharia together with Prime City Transporters Sacco sued Cord leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula on June 10 for the damages.

In her application, she demanded compensation from the Opposition leaders and a stop to the anti-IEBC protests.

In retaliation, CORD moved to the High Court to dismiss the case on grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear and determine the matter. The move failed after the court ruled that Mrs Macharia's rights had been violated and the case was set to proceed on June 29.

On Friday, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and some Jubilee Members of Parliament (MP) came together in a ceremony where they handed a new matatu to Mrs Macharia.

The new matatu is christened with interesting messages: "Defeat is not our portion"and "No more destruction to our business".
