PHOTOS: Uhuru Fulfills Major Promise to Police

President Uhuru Kenyatta has fulfilled a promise to provide the police service with armoured vehicles to help in tackling crime.

On Sunday, over 30 state-of-the art armoured vehicles were offloaded at the GSU headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi.

The fighting wagons are said to have been imported last week and were dispatched to Nairobi at dawn, under tight security.

This came a week after President Kenyatta vowed to acquire the vehicles to save the police from always depending on the military especially when responding to terror related situations.

"Kenya police force will for the first time in history acquire armoured personnel carriers to increase their mobility and protective gear when deployed in volatile areas."

“You don’t have to depend on the military or other security agents for you to perform your duties, we will ensure you are properly equipped,” Uhuru said.

Reports indicate that following the delivery, a meeting of the top brass in the Police service led by Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett,  will be held at around 10am on Monday, at Ruaraka GSU headquarters.
