Police Guns Found in Al Shabaab Hideout

Police officers have recovered deadly weapons after ambushing a suspected Al Shabaab hideout in Malindi, Kilifi County.

During the Tuesday night operation conducted by officers drawn from the anti-terror and elite squad units, two police rifles were also recovered. The guns had reportedly been snatched from security agents in previous attacks.

According to Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa, police found an M-4 rifle stolen from a Navy officer who was killed during an attack at Nyali barracks.

The officers managed to find a G-3 firearm also taken from police officers killed by suspected militants while guarding a bank in Mombasa town.

Other weapons that were discovered from the hideout included a hand grenade, two detonators, ten safe pins, chemicals for manufacturing improvised explosive devices, 318 bullets and 9mm ammunition used by pistols.

In the operation that led to the death of one suspect and three others being arrested, security agents also discovered 11 mobile phones, a pistol oil cleaner, SIM cards, jihad materials and cash in Kenyan currency, pounds and U.S. dollars.
