Police Identify Mastermind Behind Robberies in Major Towns in Kenya

Police in Nairobi have launched a manhunt for a man believed to be the mastermind behind a series of robberies in cities and major towns across Kenya.

This is after officers from the flying squad unit tracked the man to a home in Syokimau on Friday, where they found stolen goods worth over Sh80 million.

The suspect -only identified as Mwangi- was, however, not in the premises.

The police also found two police communication handsets and two pairs of handcuffs.

The police were able to link some of the stolen property as follows:  Sh8 million worth of medicine stolen from a Citylink Pharma go-down on Likoni Road on July 1, medicine worth Sh2 million stolen from Pharma Specialties along Mombasa Road on July 10, electronics worth Sh70 million and textile goods stolen from a Golden Gate Cargo Services truck by gangsters dressed as police officers in Salgaa, Nakuru, on July 15.

The flying squad officers had been tracking the medicine stolen from Citylink Pharma when they stumbled upon the go-down for stolen loot.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, Flying Squad boss Said Kiprotich said that the police had intelligence linking Mwangi to most robberies and burglaries in Nairobi, Nakuru, and on the Nakuru, Mombasa and Nairobi highways.
