Residents of Marakwet West on Wednesday discovered a body of a police officer at a busaa den, whose owner was reportedly on the run.
The deceased was taken to Kapsowar Mission Hospital mortuary as police launched a search for the den owner.
Villagers who found the officers body, burnt down the premises and two other nearby stores, in an act of vengeance following the incident.
Area police boss, Mathews Mang'ira, confirmed the incident and affirmed that they would investigate the matter further, to determine the cause of the officer's death and the whereabouts of the den owner.
Mr Mang'ira also stated that they had launched a search on the arsonists who burnt down buildings in the area.
