Police Officer in Trouble for Stealing Colleague’s Gun

An officer was arrested and arraigned in a court in Embu for allegedly stealing a gun from his senior officer.

Constable David Kipyegon Rotich attached to the Dog Unit Section at Itabua police station is said to have broken into Sergeant Mwangi Mugutu’s house and made away with a Ceska pistol and 15 rounds of 9mm caliber ammunition.

Citizen Digital reports that the pistol is valued at Ksh 180,000 while the ammunitions are worth Ksh 750.

Mugutu was out of the house when the incident occurred.

When he found the pistol missing, he reported the matter to Itabua OCS who arranged for all houses in the police line to be searched.

Rotich was however not present and efforts to trace him on his mobile phone failed.

He was later found in Kaimbogo Village in Ngarua, Laikipia County.

He led officers to his girlfriend’s house where the items were recovered.

He however denied having stolen them.

He is currently at Embu police station as police continue with investigations into the theft.
