Police Reveal Why 7 CORD Politicians Face Life Imprisonment

New reports now indicate that about seven politicians affiliated to the CORD coalition could face robbery with violence charges, an offense punishable by life imprisonment.

Officials privy to the probing reportedly disclosed that the politicians led by Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho could be arrested and charged with the offence following several incidents of violence and robbery during the Malindi by-election.

The Opposition members may also be charged over the stripping of Ms Mary Mwanguo, a Jubilee supporter, the Nation reports.

Other leaders wanted in regard to the violence are Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nasir Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, Woman Representative Aisha Jumwa and Senator Stewart Madzayo, MPs Suleiman Dori (Msambweni) and Agostino Neto (Ndhiwa).

Among the persons said to have been victims of the supposed robbery incidents are Mwea MP Peter Gitau, Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu, JAP campaign official Justin Rafiki and JAP supporter Fondo Wehu, who were allegedly beaten up and robbed of unspecified amounts of cash.

Governor Joho and the Mvita MP, have since confirmed receiving the sermons, but they both stated they had more important things to do and would likely record statements on Thursday.

"I just received a call on Monday that I should appear at Malindi Police Station yesterday. But I want to say that I cannot do so because I am busy. I can only go there on Thursday at 2pm.

"These people must know that I am the Governor of Mombasa and I cannot just be ordered around by anyone. I have a constitutional mandate to serve the people first and anything else comes second," Joho stated.
