Police Use Teargas to Disperse Jubilee Party Supporters at Pangani Headquarters

Chaos erupted at the Jubilee headquarters in Pangani following a scuffle between police officers and a group of protesters who had camped outside the building.

The supporters of various aspirants who lost in the recently concluded party nominations protested over what they termed irregularities in the exercise.

Anti-riot officers were forced to lob tear gas canisters to disperse the rowdy crowd of supporters that was chanting slogans in solidarity with various aspirants.

Afterwards, uneasy calm was restored outside the building with fewer supporters on site.

The protests came as aspirants continue to file their complaints before the Jubilee Party Appeals Tribunal.

Earlier on, the Party had announced that nominated aspirants would begin receiving their certificates on Monday to give the party adequate time to address the over 300 complaints raised by various aspirants.

On Friday, the area was a beehive of activities as supporters of musician Charles Kanyi commonly known as Jaguar, who contested in Starehe constituency and controversially lost to incumbent Maina Kamanda, held demonstrations.

They were also joined by those of Kamukunji Member of Parliament, Yusuf Hassan Abdi who lost to former lawmaker Simon Mbugua.
