President Kenyatta Sets Conditions For Kalonzo and Raila To Receive Retirement Packages

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will have to wait longer for their retirement packages from the State.

This is after President Uhuru Kenyatta declined to assent to the Retirement Benefit of State Officers Bill turning it back to parliament for amendment with set recommendations.

From the set recommendations by the President the two CORD principals will have to quit active politics for them to receive the hefty retirement packages as public funds cannot be used to further their political ambitions, Citizen TV reports.

Also contrary to an earlier recommendation proposed by the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, Kenyatta recommended the inclusion of former Vice President Moody Awori and former National Assembly speaker Francis Ole Kaparo.

In his earlier proposal Rotich had sought the removal of those who had occupied the Vice President's position since independence out of the bill's beneficiary list, citing cost burden.

The retirement package in the bill includes lifetime retirement benefits, monthly pension of 80% of their last monthly salary and a lump sum payment on retirement.
