President Uhuru Kenyatta Mourns 20 Kenyans Killed in Accident Along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday sent out a strongly worded message after 20 people were killed in an accident at Soysambu area along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The President spoke in Beijing, China where he joined 28 other Heads of State and Government for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and the round table summit.

First, Kenyatta sent a message of condolence to the families, relatives and friends of the 20 victims and those injured in the accident.

“I'm deeply saddened to learn of the deaths of more than 19 people in a bus accident at Soysambu area on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.  My condolences to the families, relatives, and friends of those who have lost dear and loved ones,” President Kenyatta said.

The Head of State instructed relevant authorities to quickly establish the root cause of the accident.

President Kenyatta further ordered the road authorities to implement more measures to ensure roads safety at all times.

Uhuru assured that hospitals in the region were already treating victims injured during the accident adding that the medical teams were on standby to attend to casualties that needed specialised care.

He finally assured that emergency and support services had been dispatched to the accident area to help mitigate the situation.

The 20 were killed after the bus they were travelling in tried to overtake another vehicle and crashed into an oncoming trailer. The bus was then rammed from behind by another truck.
