President Uhuru Shakes Up KDF Leadership

President Uhuru Kenyatta has made changes to the military's senior leadership positions.

In a rare change, the first female brigadier has been appointed.

Colonel Fatumah Ahmed is the first woman in the history of the Kenya Defence Forces to hold rank of brigadier.

Ahmed was also appointed as the Managing Director of the Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme (DEFMIS).

The Tuesday appointments saw Kenya Navy Commander Maj Gen Ngewa Mukala moved and named as the commandant of Defence Staff College.

The new Navy Commander is Maj Gen Levi Franklin Mgalu.

Here are the rest of the changes in appointments;

Maj Gen George Mayamba Owino- Posted to the Kenya Military Academy and appointed the commandant.

Col George Odhiambo Walwa- Promoted to Brigadier and appointed the Chief of Operations at the Defence Headquarters.

Brigadier William Karisa- Appointed Commander for Six Brigade

Brigadier Henry Ofulah- Appointed Commander of Kahawa Garrison.

Brigadier Patrick Nderitu- Appointed Director of International Peace Support Training Centre

Brigadier Godfrey Aumah Peter Buluma- Appointed Chief of Operations, Plans and Training at the Kenya Army

Brigadier James Gitiba- Appointed Chief of logistics at the Kenya Army headquarters

Brigadier Simon Wachira- Appointed Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor at the Defence Staff College.

Brigadier Vincent Naisho Loonena- Appointed Base Commander of Mtongwe

Brigadier Martin Kizito Ong’oyi- Appointed Chief of personnel at Defence headquarters.

Brigadier Daniel Kimutal Pyaban- Appointed Commander of Kenya Rapid Development Capability.

The new appointments are the first changes since the current Chief of Defence Forces, General Samson Mwathethe, took office in April 2015.
