PS Nicholas Muraguri Apologises to CS Mailu During Health Senate Committee Meeting

Health Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri has apologised for frustrating the talks meant to end the doctors' strike.

Appearing before the Health Senate Committee, which was broadcasted on National Television, Mr Muraguri stated that he was sorry for seemingly undermining CS Cleopha Mailu's directive to head the negotiations.

The PS noted that the whole issue was a simple miscommunication between him and the CS but maintained that they were in good terms.

"I just want to apologise for that misunderstanding and the perception that maybe there was insubordination. Otherwise, we had all agreed on how the process should continue. I humbly apologise for that," Muraguri said.

However, Mailu told the Senate that at no time did they agree on any changes after assigning him to lead the talks.

"While I accept the apology, I want to say that at no time did we discuss the change which meant the PS was not going to attend those meetings. Therefore, I want that clarification recorded," Mailu said.

Mailu committed to make sure that the Ministry would continue to work together to end the doctors' strike which is on its 74th day.

The divided positions of the two leaders prompted the Health Senate Committee chair, Wilfred Machage, to conclude that there was a 'mess' in the ministry which he opined should be cleaned up by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

On Tuesday, Mr Mailu accused Muraguri of insubordination when he appointed him to head the negotiations.
