Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Planning Anne Waiguru has threatened to sue CORD Leader Raila Odinga over claims that she was involved in the Sh791 million graft saga at the National Youth Service (NYS).
Ms Waiguru demanded an apology from the former Prime Minister for what she terms as defamation or else she would move to court and file a defamatory suit.
In a letter to the Opposition Leader, the CS said that the statements made by Mr Odinga were false and portrayed her as a common thief, embezzler of public funds, corrupt in the extreme and a fragrant law breaker.
Odinga however, dared Waiguru to proceed to the arms of justice saying it would open an opportunity for her to explain her role in the NYS scam.
“There will be no apology...A lawsuit filed by Anne Waiguru is a great opportunity for her to take the stand and explain to Kenyans on oath the shenanigans that have been reported in respect of NYS and the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) and her involvement or lack thereof in those issues.” Odinga's lawyer Paul Mwangi affirmed.
The CORD Leader added that the lawsuit would present a great chance for the Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary to explain to all Kenyans why she had been receiving preferential treatment from the President in matters of corruption unlike other Cabinet Secretaries.
Last week Anne Waiguru released names of 22 officers who had been recommended for prosecution over the NYS graft allegations. In retaliation to her move, the Opposition leaders demanded that investigations start from the head and not vindicate junior staff.
