Raila to Jet Back from the US Over NASA Crisis Meeting

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has been forced to cut short his trip in the United States (US) to attend to what has been termed as a looming crisis in the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Reports indicate that the NASA co-principals will have a crisis meeting on Tuesday less that 24 hours after Raila jets back to the country on Monday.

An MP in the ODM Party, who spoke in confidence to the Nation, disclosed that Odinga had originally been scheduled to fly back from the US later in the week but his advisers asked him to urgently change his schedule to attend to the growing political storm that has threatened to tear apart the Opposition coalition.

The main agenda of the session will be to reassure supporters that the Alliance was still intact despite the growing speculations of a looming fallout.

According to a source within the party, the meeting would only be attended by the four top leaders, Mr Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya).

The meeting comes in the wake of growing speculation that Kalonzo was planning to ditch the alliance. Additionally, there have been bitter exchanges among NASA affiliates on whether to hold joint or separate nominations next month in the party strongholds.

At the meeting, each of the four Leaders will be expected to reiterate their commitment to the coalition.

“We want to stabilise the situation. Such a session would be important since we have not had a full house meeting since he (Mr Odinga) travelled out. We have the commitment of each one of us that we are in this to the end,” Mudavadi told the Nation

Odinga’s spokesman, Dennis Onyango stated that the former Prime minister would arrive on Monday after a 10-day absence.

Before meeting his fellow co-principals, Mr Odinga is set to hold a closed-door meeting with his ODM inner circle.

Last week, it was reported that a section of ODM MPs are considering having Raila abandon the NASA outfit and take a shot at the Presidency on the Orange Party ticket.
