Raila Odinga Dismisses Reports that Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka Will Leave NASA

ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has dismissed reports that Wiper Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka was planning to leave the National Super Alliance (NASA).

On Tuesday, Raila stated that Kalonzo had been very clear about his intentions to stay in NASA and he had no solid reasons to doubt him.

“Kalonzo has addressed press conferences and public rallies including last weekend where he stated categorically that he is in NASA. Why the media insists that he is leaving, why the media want to speak for him is something we cannot understand,” the former Prime Minister stated in an interview with The Standard.

Last week on Thursday, Kalonzo presented his presidential nomination papers to the Wiper party's Election Board.

The documents were received and accepted by the Board's Chairman who officially declared Musyoka as Wiper's presidential candidate for the August 8 General Election.

On his part, Kalonzo clarified that presenting his papers was not an indication the party would go it alone in the next polls but just meant that he had been 'blessed' by his own party.

"We are in NASA to stay. We now are more hopeful that this will help us clinch the NASA ticket to face Jubilee on the ballot," the former Vice President affirmed.

Kalonzo added, "All NASA principals have parties that they head. So, do not be deceived that my being Wiper flag bearer will cause any rift in the alliance," Kalonzo said after he was cleared by the party's national elections board.

Meanwhile, talks on how to pick the NASA presidential candidate are still ongoing and the flagbearer is expected to be unveiled next month.
