REVEALED: How CORD Will Select 2017 Presidential Candidate

The question on who will be the CORD coalition's presidential flag bearer in the 2017 elections has remained the subject of speculation, not only among political pundits but the country as a whole.

However, going by the latest sentiments from Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, CORD will choose its forerunner either through a contested nomination or boardroom deal.

In an interview with a local daily Wetangula highlighted that they might sit with Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka, "and agree on an arrangement and then prevail upon our supporters and our colleagues to support and follow".

"If that will not be available, the next most logical agreement will be to find an alternative mechanism. If we don’t go through a consensus, we will have a contest," Wetangula added.

The FORD-Kenya party leader noted that in choosing their poll bearer they will be guided by among other factors "to present a candidate, running mate and a team that represents the face of Kenya".

“Our target is to present a future of hope and unity. These will be guiding factors for the three of us,” Wetangula said.

The fact that the three CORD principals have expressed their desire for the top seat has continuously been seen as a source of discord in the Coalition.

Nonetheless, the trio has on several occasions assured their supporters and critics that the CORD coalition was as strong as ever.

With each of the three leaders expressing their interest, it remains to be seen how the selection will be done considering fears of partisanship in the whole process.

Earlier, Mr Odinga mentioned that CORD would present a candidate that is equal to the task of rebuilding Kenya adding that there was no reason for panic.
