Ruth Odinga Accuses State of Bias Against the Odinga Family

Opposition leader Raila Odinga's younger sister and Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga on Tuesday revealed that being a member of the Odinga family was not as good as people thought.

The Deputy Governor explained that members of the Odinga family were being sidelined in political leadership because of their relationship to National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga.

Ruth further stated that her family was finding it hard to get elective and public service jobs since the Government was discriminating them based on their perceived political inclination.

She cited her elder brother Nominated MP Oburu Odinga whose nomination to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) caused uproar just because of being Raila's brother despite the qualifications he had.

"Why should there be protests when any member of the Odinga family runs for an elective post just because of Raila, despite our qualifications?" Ruth queried.

The Opposition leader's sister urged Kenyans not to treat the rest of the Odinga family unfairly or with political contempt as they were just like any other Kenyans.

"Even when we run for elective seats, it is the people who hold the sovereign power to decide who to pick and so it may not necessarily be an automatic win as some always perceive it to be," she stated.

Ms Odinga is seeking to retain her deputy governor seat in Kisumu by being appointed the running mate to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) governorship nominee Anyang' Nyong'o.
