Salome Njoroge Who Registered as Voter With Kalonzo's ID Number Appears Before IEBC

The Gatundu North woman said to have registered as a voter using Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's ID number, on Thursday appeared before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Salome Njoroge went to one of the electoral body's registration centres to rectify her personal details after the alleged mix-up.

Confirming the incident, IEBC divulged: "Ms Salome Njoroge has corrected her voter records with IEBC. The ID entry error now sorted & does not share ID# number with Hon Kalonzo Musyoka."

On Thursday, the CORD co-principal was left in utter shock after he discovered that he had been blocked from participating in the 2017 General Election.

Mr Musyoka, who had visited a registration centre in Wajir county, curiously decided to verify his particulars in the Biometric Voter Register (BVR) only to find out that his ID number belonged to Ms Njoroge, born in 1993.

Kalonzo claimed that the error was part of a wider plan to rig the much-awaited elections through registration of voters using fake IDs.

However, the Ministry of Interior dismissed Kalonzo's allegations stating that there was no other individual in the country with an ID number same as that of the former Vice President.

"According to NRB records, Kalonzo Musyoka was issued with a new (replacement) National Identification Card on 31st January 1996 after reporting that he had lost his earlier ID card. As such, it is clear that the former VP does not share a National ID number with any other individual," Interior Ministry spokesman Mwenda Njoka said.
