Sarah Obama to Continue Enjoying Gov't Security After President Obama's Exit

After the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, officially exited office on Friday last week, a section of the public wondered whether his grandmother, Mama Sarah Obama would continue to enjoy VIP treatment.

Mama Sarah had been enjoying full-time security at her home in Kogelo Village, Siaya County since Barack won the US Presidency in 2008.

Addressing the issue, Siaya County Administration Police Commandant Ben Abuga affirmed that the 95-year old woman would continue being protected by the Government.

According to Mr Abuga, Mama Sarah's home will in the meantime remain under 24-hour surveillance by police officers unless a new order is issued.

Previously, visitors going to visit the former US President's grandmother, among them local and international journalists had been undergoing a security check before entering the residence.

In 2011, after al-Qaeda terror group leader Osama Bin Laden was taken out by the US, security was beefed up in Mama Sarah's homestead following fears of a retaliatory attack by terrorists.

"We received reports of plans to attack the home of Mama Sarah Obama and we immediately put in place adequate security measures," Siaya police boss Stephen Cheteka said at the time.

At the time, more police officers were deployed to ensure Mama Sarah's home was under round the clock guard.
