Senator Kivuti Warns Kalonzo to Keep Off Mwea Scheme Land Conflict

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been warned to keep off Embu County after he volunteered to resolve the Mwea Scheme land issues.

Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti cautioned Kalonzo to steer clear of the issue adding that the county leaders were capable of handling the matter on their own.

Kivuti further claimed that the planned visit by Musyoka to the expansive scheme was a threat to peace as it was likely for the Opposition leader to incite locals to violence.

A section of the local population has been protesting the fact that they had not been allocated land in the scheme.

The Wiper leader has already accused the National Government of planning to displace the local community from their land.

Musyoka further warned that the alleged plan to evict the residents at the scheme would result in bloodshed given that most of the settlers have lived on the land for more than 35 years.

The CORD co-principal added that it was unfair for the government to allocate a majority of the land to ‘outsiders’ while locals were allegedly being left to share 17 percent of what was remaining.

However, Kivuti dismissed the claims made by Musyoka, adding that the process of demarcating the land was above board.

“I investigated the process following complaints by residents and found it was above board and residents were being consulted. Even Governor Martin Wambora can confirm that everyone will get the land,” the Jubilee senator stated.

The area governor clarified that the land was being distributed among locals with only 100 acres being set out for Mau Mau war veterans.
