Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and former Starehe Member of Parliament (MP), Bishop Margaret Wanjiru have offered a strong indication of vying on a common ticket in this year's Nairobi Governorship elections.
On Friday morning, Sonko and Bishop Wanjiru attended an interview together on Radio Citizen where they seemed to compliment and agree on each other's pledges to Nairobi residents.
At the end of the interview, the former Starehe MP emphasised that they were willing to work together with one being the governor and the other as deputy.
"Ensure you give your vote to the both of us, one can be the governor and the other deputy," the Bishop reiterated.
Ahead of the Jubilee Election Board on Thursday, Sonko had sent an invite to newsrooms indicating that together with the self-proclaimed "Team Nairobi", they would make a major announcement.
The announcement would come specifically from the Senator, Bishop Wanjiru and Dagoretti MP Dennis Waweru. The three are the only Team Nairobi members with declared interest in the gubernatorial race.
The press address, however, did not happen as the Senator led violent demonstrations against the presiding officials causing the meeting to be adjourned abruptly.
In addition, only Bishop Wanjiru and Sonko were present at the meeting as Waweru and nominated MP Johnson Sakaja remained conspicuously absent.
Sonko seems to have lost support from other Jubilee politicians in Nairobi following the rising popularity on former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.
The Nairobi Senator last week claimed there were powerful forces in Jubilee trying to edge him out of the gubernatorial race.
