Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Mike Sonko has sensationally claimed that a powerful Cabinet Secretary in the Jubilee government has threatened to kill him.
Senator Sonko, alleged that the powerful CS in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Cabinet threatened to assassinate him over his hard-line stance to vie for Nairobi’s Governor seat.
Sonko revealed that the CS issued the ultimatum in no uncertain terms, after he blatantly refused to shelve his gubernatorial ambitions and support former Gatanga Member of Parliament, Peter Kenneth, for the seat.
He added that the unnamed individual was among a group of influential handlers and key personalities serving in Uhuru’s government, who had approached him and asked him to quit.
“The President’s men have approached me many times to drop my bid but I have refused,” said Sonko.
He lamented that the forces behind his competitor for the seat, were using similar tactics they used on President Uhuru in 2013 to step down and support the then United Democratic Forum’s (UDF) Musalia Mudavadi for the presidency.
“Powerful people in former President Mwai Kibaki’s administration had convinced Uhuru not to vie in 2013 and asked him to step down for Mudavadi. That time, we asked Kenneth to step down for Uhuru and he refused. I can’t step down for him,” remarked Sonko
The senator expressed confidence that he would trounce Kenneth in the Jubilee nominations and will not cow to the pressure being exerted by the power brokers.
