Uhuru and Margaret Kenyatta Visit Football Legend Joe Kadenge at His Home in South B

President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta visited football legend Joe Kadenge on Sunday at his home in South B, Nairobi, after he expressed a wish to see the Head of State.

Confirming the visit, Kenyatta divulged that he gave the football icon Sh2 Million and a comprehensive insurance cover with the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).

“I gave him an NHIF card so he and his family have access to medical care. I thanked him for his service to Kenya and for the football and AFC Leopards replica shirt bearing his name and his famed number 7,” the President wrote on his Facebook.

In return, Kadenge gave Kenyatta and the First Lady a branded No.7 football Jersey, an autographed ball and a copy of his autobiography

The President was also accompanied by Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario

The visit comes barely a week after Kadenge, who was admitted at the hospital, requested Kenyatta and former Presidents Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi to visit him.

"There are people in Government that I would like to meet. First and foremost, President Uhuru Kenyatta. I would also like to meet the retired Presidents too. You remember," the football icon stated in an emotional video.

In October last year, the superstar associated with the phrase Kadenge na mpira, collapsed during a football match at Camp Toyoyo grounds in Jericho, Nairobi.

At the same time, on December 26, 2016, he was rushed to Metropolitan Hospital by fellow retired footballer George Sunguti after falling ill.

The former footballer has been grappling with diabetes and respiratory complications.
