Several Injured, Others Arrested For Disrupting Meeting

Guardian Hotel in Nyamira County was the scene of drama on Monday after rowdy youth disrupted a meeting called by some members of parliament.

The meeting organized by Timothy Bosire of Kitutu Masaba, Charles Geni of North Mugirango, James Gesami of West Mugirango and women representative Alice had been called to highlight issues affecting the county.

The situation quickly escalated when the MPs complained of corruption, mismanagement, nepotism, political repression and incompetence in the county government blaming the county's governor John Nyagarama, much to the displeasure of attending youth.

The youth, enraged by the accusations started chanting slogans in support of the governor, The Star reports.

Despite the disruption, the MPs continued reading a statement chastising the governor and the county government.

They complained of intimidation by goons allegedly hired by the governor adding that attempts by the members of parliament at dialogue with the county government had failed.

A scuffle ensued with chairs and tables being thrown around.

Police officers had to step in to prevent the chaos from continuing.

Several people were injured while others were arrested.

The governor has since denied allegations by the MPS adding that he did not send the youth to disrupt the press conference.
