Shock as Church Elder Beheads Farm Help

Residents of a village in Othaya, Nyeri county are yet to understand what could have made a man they trusted and looked up to as a church elder turn into a cold blooded murderer.

The suspect, Ndegwa Wachira is said to have attacked Partrick Wanjahi and Peter Gathondu, the two helps who worked in his brother's farm.

He assaulted them using a sharp panga, killing Wanjahi and critically injuring Gathondu, The Star reports.

While the motive of the crime is not clear, Wachira is said to have been involved in a dispute with his brother over the piece of land where the crime took place.

Wednesday morning at around 10 am, the two farm hands arrived at the farm and found Wachira who had woken up a bit earlier and milked the cows.

It is then that he attacked them. Screams from the injured man and the suspect's mother attracted a crowd which wanted to lynch the suspect.

To escape the incensed mob, Wachira surrendered himself to the local police.

The victim is receiving treatment at Othaya District Hospital.

Police have launched investigations into the crime.
