Somalia Plane Crash-lands at JKIA

Several passengers were Sunday evening left stranded at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for hours after an airplane from Somalia crash-landed.

The aircraft is said to have made an Emergency Landing at JKIA touching the ground on its belly before veering off the runway.

Fortunately, four people who were on board escaped unhurt.

Confirming the incident,  the Kenya Airports Authority said they were forced to close the runaway temporarily as they evacuated the aircraft.

"Jambo, at 4.55PM today, an aircraft from Somalia made an Emergency Landing at JKIA. It landed on its belly & veered off the Runway.

"It had 4 souls on board. No casualties reported. As a result, the runway is temporarily closed to evacuate aircraft," KAA stated.

All arriving planes were being diverted to Mombasa and other airports as the runway remained inaccessible.

Kenya Airways confirmed that by 8.50am on Monday, 13 planes had departed from the Moi International Airport, adding that the situation was quickly easing up.

KQ assured all passengers that there was no cause for alarm as the situation would get back to normal.
