Sonko to Quit Jubilee if Party Disqualifies Him Over Disciplinary Issues

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has threatened to quit Jubilee if he is disqualified from the Party nominations set for April.

Speaking during a radio interview on Thursday morning, Sonko declared that he had many options which he could turn to as he seeks to capture the City gubernatorial seat.

The Senator cried foul over disciplinary processes instituted against him on allegations of causing chaos during the election of County Election Board officials at the Bomas of Kenya.

He divulged that the Party Disciplinary Committee had summoned him and was demanding Sh7 Million, as payment for damages reportedly caused during the fracas.

Sonko however adamantly declared that he would neither pay the money nor appear before any committee adding that he would decamp if disqualified by Jubilee.

“I will not pay that money! I will not appear before that committee! Let them disqualify me and I will not run as an independent candidate but will look for another party. NASA is also a party and it's my democratic right,” he affirmed.

He added that he was not the first leader to decamp to a different side and still went on to win an elective post citing cases of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto.

“Even the Deputy President was in ODM and later joined URP. We were also with Uhuru in PNU before he was frustrated. We joined TNA and he got elected. I will decamp to any party that will get me elected. NASA is not a demonic party. If they chase me away I will go and leave them with their preferred candidate,” he declared.

Sonko claimed that there was a plan to frustrate him out of Jubilee and have him run independently in order to reduce votes for incumbent Governor Evans Kidero.

This he said would give an advantage to former Gatundu MP Peter Kenneth, who Sonko claimed is being preferred by some Jubilee officials.
