Sonko Ready for Prosecution by US Over Drug Deals

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has stated that he is ready to travel to the United States to face prosecution following the various reports linking him to drug trafficking.

Speaking on Sunday during a mass voter registration rally at Changamwe, Mombasa, Sonko noted that his passport was already in place and he was willing to be investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

“My passport is ready. I last went to America with President Uhuru Kenyatta and I am ready to go back there. The FBI will decide who is involved in the peddling of illegal drugs and who is not,” he said.

The Senator rubbished claims that he is a drug dealer, adding that everyone who had been mentioned in the list of illegal drug handlers should head to the US for investigation and prosecution.

During the rally, Deputy President William Ruto affirmed that all drug dealers in Kenya would be extradited just like the Akasha brothers, who were last week sent to the US.

National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale highlighted that the Jubilee Party would not tolerate its members who have been linked to the illegal trade.

A 2011 report by the American Embassy named six high-profile individuals in Kenya connected to drug trafficking.

They include Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Senator Sonko, former Assistant Minister Harun Mwau, former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua and Othaya MP Mary Wambui.
