Sossion Exposes TSC's Plan to 'Kill' Solidarity

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has sharply condemned the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for issuing a circular which seeks to allow tutors to confirm their membership to the different unions.

KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion bashed TSC citing that the move to ask teachers to confirm their union membership was illegal and confirmed their worst fears.

According to the teachers' employer the notice was released so as to address numerous complaints presented to the commission by teachers and the unions.

TSC cited that some teachers complained that they had never signed for any union membership yet the Commission had effected recovery of union dues from their salaries while others said that they had enlisted to a particular union yet their membership dues was being remitted to a different union, these among other concerns.

KNUT however, criticised TSC stating that the commission wanted to kill their solidarity. Sossion added that in as much as the complaints maybe true, "there are ways of a person pulling out of a union. You do not ask everyone to confirm MEMBERSHIP because a few people want out”.

Sossion alluded to foul play by TSC indicating that the timing was wrong. The teachers' unions have been in an unending battle with TSC even after President Uhuru Kenyatta's intervention over their unpaid dues and also teachers' September salaries.
