South Rift Valley Leaders and Voters Defect to NASA

National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has received a major boost after a supporters affiliated to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto defected to the Opposition.

This follows the defection of a section of South Rift leaders and voters who decamped from Jubilee to NASA accusing the government of neglecting them.

Led by Mau evictees spokesperson Bernard Sang, the group, mainly Mau forest evictees, said that they were tired of false promises from the Jubilee administration that has disappointed them.

The group promised to support NASA in the upcoming elections and invited Odinga to address their plight following what they termed inhumane eviction from Mau forest.

"The DP is now desperate and wants to use the issue to get Kipsigis votes," Sang said.

Rebecca Mosonik accused the President of failing to visit them despite their overwhelming support for his candidature in 2013.

In the press conference held in Narok, they insisted that the government had treated them like "animals and were burning their homes" vowing to support NASA.

"Raila, please come and visit us and see the situation we are undergoing because the Jubilee leaders have failed us," Mosonik stated.

This comes as DP Ruto is facing growing opposition in the region led by Bomet Governor and NASA principal Isaac Ruto.
