A form three student from Arabia Boys Secondary School was severely jabbed by a colleague at around 1am on Friday, as he was sleeping in the school's dormitory.
According to medics at Mandera Referral Hospital, Harun Sabriye sustained deep cuts in his abdomen from the assault.
“We received the patient at around 6am and diagnosed him with penetrating abdominal injuries. He is still in critical condition under close observation,” the hospital's Superintendent Kala Hassan Adan was quoted by the Nation.
It was established that the attacker, who is on the run, made away with Sabriye's mobile phone since the mother tried to contact his son but the call was answered by the assailant.
The motive of the attack is yet to be known, even as Sabriye recorded a statement with the police investigating the incident.
The attack comes a few weeks after a separate one in Mombasa County, where a 12-year-old boy from Sparki Primary School knifed his schoolmate as they were heading home from school.
