Supreme Court Judges on the Spot Over Sh 20M

Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga and other supreme court judges have been ordered to refund millions of shillings they allegedly received irregularly.

The parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) directed Dr Mutunga to immediately refund Sh1.56 million he was irregularly paid in leave allowances, the Star reports.

According to the committee’s report the following judges are also required to refund the indicated amounts; Jackton Ojwang’ (Sh1.152 million), Philip Tunoi (Sh910,000), Ibrahim Isaak (Sh531,660) and Njoki Ndung’u (Sh1.630,000).

PAC also wants Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko to begin the prosecution of former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Gladys Boss Shollei for occasioning the loss of over Sh2.2 billion in public funds.

In a special forensic audit report on the Judiciary tabled in the House on Tuesday, PAC accuses Shollei of gross breach of government financial regulations and failing to safeguard public funds as the accounting officer of the Judicial Service Commission.

Mutunga is also accused of failing to honour the committee’s summons during its probe.
