Armed gunmen suspected to be Alshabaab members early Thursday kidnapped a Senior chief in Mandera County.
The gunmen are said to have hijacked a miraa van and kidnapped the Chief, in an attack in Arabia area, Mandera County.
Confirming the incident to the Daily Nation, Arabia ward representative Abdullahi Abdirahman has said that the armed men stopped two passenger vehicles that ply Mandera-Arabia road before screening every passenger and after identifying the senior chief, Muktar Maalim Ibrahim they left with him on foot.
Leaders from Mandera county led by Senator Billow Kerrow have called on the government to intensify patrols and ensure the safety of the region, which he says risks being isolated by the Shabaab.
