Teachers, Parents at Bridge International Academies Condemn KNUT Boss Wilson Sossion

Teachers and parents of Bridge International academies are an angry lot following the recent remarks by KNUT Secretary-General Wilson Sossion indicating that the institutions were offering low quality education let alone operating unlawfully.

Bridge International Academies is a chain of nursery and primary schools that deliver education for just $5 a month (on average).

Sossion had demanded the closure of the low-cost academies saying they were a profit-making venture and the quality of education they were offering was questionable.

He added that the schools were informal but operated like private institutions and noted that the 405 of them charge children Sh600 a month.

However, in a statement on Thursday,  the teachers and parents termed Sossion's remarks as "mere propaganda" adding that he had psychologically affected pupils and teachers in the institution.

“We are offering alternative basic education and training. In the eight years we have been operational in Kenya, we have been able to demonstrate that even on very limited budget we can deliver,” said Ms Celestine Tabu a member of the parents and teachers committee.

"We are appealing to Sossion to withdraw the statement he made against our schools".

The parents and teachers also want to meet Education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i over the quality of education offered in the institutions.

They affirmed that the management had commenced the process of registering all of its 405 academies across the country in line with the new government regulations.
