TNA Disowns Senator for Criticising DP Ruto

The National Alliance (TNA) party on Monday distanced itself from remarks made by Nominated Senator Paul Njoroge against Deputy President William Ruto.

Njoroge had earlier indicated that DP Ruto was not guaranteed support from members of the Mount KenyaCommunity in the 2022 presidential race. He told the DP to "stop trying to blackmail Kikuyus to automatically support him in 2022".

In a statement, TNA chairman Johnson Sakaja emphatically said that Njoroge's sentiments were not a reflection of the party's standing.

"Mr Paul Ben Njoroge has NO AUTHORITY whatsoever to speak on behalf of TNA or the Jubilee Coalition and especially not on matters that he is not well versed with,” the statement read in part.

Sakaja further mentioned that Jubilee was not confused regarding who will be the coalition's flag bearer in the 2017 and 2022 elections.

TNA added that the Senator must disclose on whose behalf he made the remarks. He was further urged to refrain from being used by Jubilee opponents.

Earlier in the day, Naivasha residents took to the streets to protest Njoroge's statements highlighting that they were 'baseless'.

"We are perturbed by the Senators’statement and we say categorically that the Kikuyu community is not short of leaders who can speak on its behalf,” Lakeview MCA Simon Wanyoike stated.

Nominated MCA Esther Njeri, who was part of the leaders in the demonstration, also accused the Senator of working for the CORD coalition and its agents.

"We know he is working for CORD and its agents. But he will receive the shock of his life when we vote for our president and his deputy come 2017 and 2022,” she said.
