Tragedy as Students Drown in the Ocean

Seven students drowned while swimming at Diani beach, Kwale county in what was supposed to be an unforgettable event.

The students from St.Martin Deppores Boarding School were swept by mighty waves while on a trip to the coast when tragedy stroke.

Kenya Red cross and divers retrieved seven bodies with the search being called off at around 10pm when the last three bodies were recovered.

The perished students were candidates for this year's Kenya Certificate for Primary Education(KCPE) examination which will take place in November.

According to The Red Cross four students were taken to hospital while one is said to have been discharged on Thursday morning.

Reports indicate that about 56 students set out for swimming when the incident happened as the sun was setting.

The families of the victims are expected to travel to the coast to help assist the police with the process of identification at Msambweni Hospital Mortuary where the bodies are lying.
