Two Parties in NASA Want Raila Odinga Made Flagbearer

ODM leader Raila Odinga’s quest to be presidential flagbearer has been uplifted after two other parties - the Citizens Convention Party (CCP) and Kenya National Congress (KNC) - backed his presidential bid.

Leaders of CCP and KNC - Grace Akumu and South Mogirango MP Manson Nyamweya - respectively, announced on Wednesday that they support NASA with preference to Odinga being the flagbearer.

Ms Akumu stated that they supported NASA but Odinga must be made the presidential candidate because of his popularity.

“We support Mr Odinga because he has fought for a better course for our country. CCP, therefore, supports him to fly the NASA presidential flag,” she affirmed.

On the other hand, Mr Nyamweya said that if NASA wants to win the August 8 election, Odinga was the only man who stood a chance to beat President Uhuru Kenyatta compared to the other candidates in the alliance.

“KNC supports NASA with a preference for ODM leader Raila Odinga as its flag bearer. However, we will back whoever will be fronted as the NASA candidate,” Mr Nyamweya was quoted.

Odinga is battling Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) to be the presidential candidate for NASA.

Each of the principals has maintained that he is the best-suited to lead the alliance but have vowed to stay together irrespective of who is endorsed to lead the team.

NASA set up a 12-member team to come up with the flagbearer and structures of the new alliance.
