Uhuru and Obama Explain Why the World is Focused on Africa

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and US President Barack Obama have contravened the narrative of despair wrongly painted on Africa and instead explained that Africa is the hub of not only the continent’s growth, but global growth.

The two were speaking at the UN headquarters today when they officially opened the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES)

President Kenyatta while giving his speech described Kenya as “a hotbed of vibrant culture, spectacular beauty, wonderful people and possibilities.”

The comment came as a jab to the controversial ID tagged on a news story by Cable News Network (CNN) which described Kenya as a hotbed of terror- much to the outrage of Kenyans.

President Obama on the other hand explained that he wanted to be in Kenya because “Africa is on the move and it is one of the fastest growing regions in the world”

Citing the examples of M-Pesa and Ushahidi, Obama said that innovations by Africans were being used worldwide.

He singled out Kenya as setting a good example, being the leading economy in East Africa.

Obama explained that he is not the only one who sees the promise in Africa, but other key personalities including the 20 members from the US congress, global entrepreneurs from the US and others who had accompanied him, seeking to establish partnerships and investment opportunities.

The comments by the two leaders come in the wake of increasing innovations and ideas in Kenya (as displayed in the pre- GES ) and Africa at large, as the continent moves more and more towards entrepreneurship.
