The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) could revive the just concluded mass voter registration after the government assured funding.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is in a tour of Nakuru, on Wednesday promised that his government will avail more funds to the IEBC to facilitate the process.
“My government will look for money and give the IEBC to continue with their voter registration process so that all eligible candidates to continue,” conveyed the President.
The IEBC had closed their window of voter registration on Tuesday, citing that they would not extend the voter enlisting due to limitation of funds as the exercise was costly to conduct.
“We are not extending because of lack of adequate funding. Unless we get money we can't extend because it comes with a lot of spending and currently we don't have resources,” IEBC clarified.

During the mass voter registration, the electoral commission registered only 863,073 voters, which was far less than their set target of reaching 4 million by the end of the process.
IEBC, however, reassured Kenyans that what was concluded on March 15, was the ward level registration but the enlisting of voters at the sub-counties would continue until three months before the General Election.
President Kenyatta also directed the Interior Ministry to ensure all Kenyans who have reached the right age to get their National Identification cards.
