Uhuru Makes a Move After Baby Muthoni Was Conned Sh2.8 Million

President Uhuru Kenyatta donated a sum of Sh.500,000 to help Baby Fidelis Muthoni undergo surgery in Canada after the family was swindled a sum of Sh2.8Million.

The founder of Hope Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) run by one Benson Wanjau, had promised to help the family get the money needed to fly Fidellis to Canada for the surgery.

Wanjau had helped set up an MPESA account and used social media to raise funds aimed at financing baby muthoni's medical procedure abroad.

It is reported that the account received a total deposit of Sh2.8Million which Wanjau is accussed to have withdrawn the sum and vanished.

Muthoni's father, Kenneth Kinuthia had been seeking financial help to beat a Friday deadline in order to fly his daughter to Canada where a team of doctors had volunteered to treat the baby for free.

The funds collected were to cater for the family's transport and six months stay in Canada.

Baby Muthoni was born without a bone defect on the face, a condition known as frontal encephalocele which needs reconstructive surgery.

The story of Baby Muthoni has also seen Murang'a Governor Mwangi Waria donate Sh.300,000 to the family.

Wanjau was finally arrested and locked up at Makuyu Police station and he is expected to be arraigned in Kigumo law courts.

Last week, Wanjau was summoned by the same court and asked whether he objected having his accounts frozen.

Murang’a County Police Commandant Naomi Ichami, said Wanjau did not object and even committed to deposit money in the child's account by last Friday, a promise he did not keep.
