Uhuru Ordered to Sack Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett by Tuesday

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been given a three-day ultimatum to sack one of his Cabinet Secretaries over the skyrocketing prices of commodities in the country.

National Assembly Agriculture committee gave Kenyatta until Tuesday to sack Agriculture CS Willy Bett for failing to manage the current crisis.

Led by Vice Chairman of the Committee Kareke Mbiuki, the lawmakers want Bett to be sacked or steps down voluntarily failure to which they will lead mass action.

The legislators accused Bett of working with some individuals to create shortage of essential commodities in order to hike prices.

They further blamed the government for ignoring the rising prices adding that some top government officials might be benefiting from the situation.

According to the MPs, the CS had in February assured the Committee that there were enough maize reserves to serve the country for eight months but that was not the case.

“The CS misled the house and the entire nation that we had sufficient food stocks. If indeed there were enough reserves, the CS should account for the two million bags, if not, he should also take responsibility for lying," he stated.

The same was reiterated by Ugunja lawmaker Opiyo Wandayi, Fred Outa (Nyando), Florence Mutua (Busia MP) and Mary Wambui Othaya who were also present at the press conference.
